Studio

Bio-architecture Formosana was founded in 1999 by Chang Ching-Hwa and Kuo Ying-Chao in Taipei, Taiwan — a practice built on sustainable innovation and low-carbon aesthetics.

BaF brings together local and international architects, interior designers, design talent and engineers. As a Taiwan-based firm with a global perspective, we implement sustainable design throughout every project — from initial planning to operation.

Our experience reassures that a sustainable lifestyle is attainable. Through attentive design and planning, we hope to create healthy environments that dissolve the boundary between people and nature.

    Sustainable Innovation

    Brand as service

With high environmental and social sensibility, BaF perceives innovation as the core value that forges us ahead. Cutting-edge knowledge and technology are the sources of innovation; our goal is to provide humane, sustainable design services.

  2. II

    Integrated Professionals

    Leading the profession

We cultivate integrated environmental design talent, encourage consistent learning and experimentation, and bring BIM and parametric modelling into the design process — collaborating across society to foster innovation in the built environment.

  3. III

    Low-Carbon Aesthetics

    A new design principle

Starting from environmental analysis and modelling, low-energy materials and technology, and the preservation of biodiversity, BaF presents a low-carbon aesthetic — and, increasingly, Biological Intelligence: buildings that, like living things, leave no waste behind.

Nine concepts, one method

From low-carbon aesthetics to Biological Intelligence: buildings that respond to their site, adapt over time, and — in use and after demolition — produce no waste, aiming for 100% reuse.
